TMF Athlete Runs Olympic Torch in SF! 4/9/2008 11:09:00 AM
TMF Athlete Runs Olympic Torch in San Francisco!
We are very proud of Susans accomplishments! We have seen her complete her first triathlon. She is now training for a Half IronMan Distance Race.
GOTR has been one of the local charities to receive funds raised by our training programs. Congratulations from the TMF Team!
Susan Roberts, San Francisco Susan Roberts is the Executive Director of the non-profit Girls on the Run of the Bay Area. Every day, she inspires the next generation of Olympic athletes with her tireless work to create a supportive environment where girls can grow up physically and mentally stronger.
GOTR is an after-school running program for girls 8 to 13 from all backgrounds that teaches girls the importance of exercise while also teaching them about empowerment, self-respect, friendship, teamwork, and goal setting. Many of the girls deal with death, violence, and other uncertainties in their communities every day. But for two hours a week, GOTR provides a safe place for them to play, exercise, make friends, and feel like a kid again. The program culminates in a non-competitive running event where the girls can shine, and truly realize that the community supports them.
Attributing her own success directly to her involvement in athletics, Susan has used running to overcome personal difficulties and is a tireless and inspirational leader. As an athletic ambassador to the San Francisco community and as a coach to many future generations of Olympic athletes to come, she is the ideal Olympic torchbearer.
